Making an Effort for What Matters

One thing I’ve been thinking about lately is how easy it is to spread effort too thin. Between school, work, and everything else, it’s tempting to try to do everything at once. But in both life and consulting, effort only really matters when it’s directed toward the right things.

In consulting, prioritization is everything. Not every problem needs solving immediately, and not every opportunity is worth pursuing. The real skill lies in identifying what actually moves the needle—what creates value, builds relationships, or drives long-term growth.

I’ve started applying that mindset more intentionally: putting effort into the things that matter most, rather than just the things that are most urgent. Whether it’s relationships, meaningful work, or personal development, being deliberate with effort leads to better outcomes—and a lot less noise.
