Finding Flow: Lessons from a Comics and Cartoons Class

This semester, I enrolled in a comics and cartoons class, not realizing it would focus so heavily on drawing. At first, I felt out of my depth—I’ve never considered myself artistic, and my early sketches showed it. But then my professor encouraged me to “find my flow state” and focus less on perfection, more on process.

Surprisingly, when I slowed down and allowed myself to enjoy the act of drawing, I found a sense of focus and calm I’d never associated with art before. This lesson carries directly into consulting: success doesn’t always come from being the most skilled in a specific area but from approaching challenges with patience, openness, and willingness to engage fully in the process. Sometimes, it’s not about the result being flawless—it’s about finding flow and creating something meaningful along the way.
